Registered Counselling Supervisor RCS Application

Please note: If you currently hold your MTC with ACCT, please apply for RCS Designation by completing the MTC Advance to RCS Application.

Application Requirements for Current MTCs

1. Current MTC designation (or equivalent professional association membership).
2. Applicants must provide proof of completed an approved supervision training program.
3. Extensive professional experience, including 5 years of Registered practice as an RTC or equivalent, or combination of five years registration between ACCT and other counselling association(s)/provincial college(s).   
4. Have attained at least 1,000 hours of direct client contact hours
5. Must have completed a minimum of 150 clinical supervision hours with a qualified supervisor who meets ACCT’s criteria. At least 50% of these hours must be individual or dyadic supervision. The remaining hours may be completed in a group supervision setting.
6. Provide a letter of reference.
7. Accept and work within ACCT’s Supervisor Code of Ethics and Code of Ethics and Practice Standards for ACCT.
8. Provide proof of current liability insurance.
9. Purchase or own a membership share.

Please note that there is an annual professional fee of $99.00 for Registered Counselling Supervisors, additional to the professional fees for MTC.

If you are not currently a member of ACCT, getting ready to apply is very important: make sure that your documents are already on your computer as electronic files. This is easy to do but does need to be done before your application.

Application Requirements for Non-MTC:

1. Hold a certificate or diploma; bachelor's degree; postgraduate certificate; master’s degree or Ph.D. in counselling from a registered school.
2. Have extensive professional experience, including a minimum of 5 years of registered counselling practice as an RTC or equivalent (or a combination of 5 years registration between ACCT and other counselling association(s)/provincial college(s)).
3. Have attained at least 1000 direct contact hours (500 in Canada).
4. Must have completed a minimum of 150 clinical supervision hours with a qualified supervisor who meets ACCT’s criteria. At least 50% of these hours must be individual or dyadic supervision. The remaining hours may be completed in a group supervision setting.
5. Provide proof of good standing registration in a recognized counselling professional association whose members practice counselling therapy.
6. Provide proof of completed an approved 30 hour supervision training program.
7. Provide a letter of reference.
8. Provide a current criminal record check.
9. Provide proof of current liability insurance.
10. Provide a current resume.
11. Read and agree to ACCT Rules, Code of Ethics, Standards of Practice, ACCT Philosophy and Scope of Practice.

Please note that there is an annual professional fee of $179.00 for Registered Counselling Supervisors, who do not also hold the MTC designation.

Applicants are responsible to ensure that all necessary documents are submitted at the time of application. Incomplete applications and missing documents will slow down this review. After the initial review and verification, your application will be sent to a committee for further review and approval. This ensures that ACCT helps set the quality standards for our profession and that ACCT members meet or exceed the requirement for their designation.

Payment in full is required for us to review and process your application.

Also, all applications are reviewed in the order they are received. Unfortunately,  we are unable to expedite a particular application.
